- 1 lb. pork shoulder, cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated
- 3 cups chicken broth or water
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- In a large pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add pork cubes and cook until lightly browned on all sides.
- Add garlic, onion and ginger. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add fish sauce and sugar. Stir to combine.
- Add chicken broth or water and five-spice powder. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes or until pork is tender.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
