Ingredients
  • 1 lb. pork shoulder, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated
  • 3 cups chicken broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder

Steps
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add pork cubes and cook until lightly browned on all sides.
  2. Add garlic, onion and ginger. Cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Add fish sauce and sugar. Stir to combine.
  4. Add chicken broth or water and five-spice powder. Bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes or until pork is tender.
  6. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
