- 1 cup Basmati Rice
- 2 tablespoons Ghee or Clarified Butter
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 3 cloves Garlic, crushed
- 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups Vegetables of your choice (carrots, peas, potatoes, etc.)
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
- Salt to taste
- Wash the rice and soak it for 15 minutes.
- Heat the ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add garlic and ginger and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add vegetables and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste. Mix well.
- Add the soaked rice and mix well. Add 1 cup of water and bring it to a boil.
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked through.
- Serve hot with raita or any other accompaniment of your choice.
