- 1/4 cup vegan butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast flakes
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- In a medium saucepan, melt the vegan butter over medium heat.
- Once melted, add the flour and whisk together until a paste forms.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking continuously, until lightly golden brown.
- Gradually add the vegetable broth, whisking continuously until all the broth has been added and no lumps remain.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast flakes and soy sauce or tamari.
- Bring to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes stirring occasionally until thickened.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Serve warm.
