- 1 cup chana dal
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
- Oil for deep frying
- Soak the chana dal in water for at least 2 hours.
- Drain the water and grind the soaked chana dal into a coarse paste.
- Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, black pepper powder, red chilli powder and coriander leaves to the paste and mix well.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round vadas.
- Deep fry them until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
