- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease an 8 inch square pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk. Stir in the melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just blended.
- Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cornbread comes out clean.
