Ingredients
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease an 8 inch square pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk. Stir in the melted butter.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just blended.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cornbread comes out clean.
