Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9 inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  3. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan. Drop spoonfuls of jam over batter. Cover with remaining batter.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean.
  5. Allow to cool before serving.
