Southern Biscuits
Ingredients
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together.
  4. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 10 seconds.
  5. Roll or pat the dough out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into 2-inch rounds with a biscuit cutter or glass.
  7. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
