- 1 lb. sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 3 cups diced apples
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh sage leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- 3 cups dry bread cubes
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
- In a large skillet cook sausage over medium heat for 5 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking up with a spoon.
- Add celery and onion; cook for 5 minutes more or until vegetables are tender.
- Stir in apples, butter, sage and thyme; cook for 3 minutes more.
- In a large bowl combine sausage mixture and bread cubes; mix well.
- Toss with enough broth to moisten.
- Spoon into prepared baking dish.
- Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until heated through.
