Ingredients
  • 1 lb. breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 8 cups cubed French bread
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until no longer pink. Drain fat.
  3. Sprinkle flour over sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly pour in milk while stirring constantly.
  5. Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened.
  6. Add salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. In prepared baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, half of the sausage gravy and half of the cheese.
  8. Repeat layering process with remaining bread cubes, gravy and cheese.
  9. Bake casserole for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
