- 1/2 cup Toor Dal
- 1 medium Onion, chopped
- 2 Green Chillies, slit lengthwise
- 1 teaspoon Tamarind Paste
- 2 Tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
- 10 Curry Leaves
- Soak the dal in water for 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the asafoetida and curry leaves.
- Add the onions and green chillies and sauté till the onions turn golden brown.
- Add the tomatoes and sauté for a few minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and tamarind paste. Mix well.
- Add the soaked dal along with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and simmer till done.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
