Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon Tamarind Paste
  • 2 Tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 10 Curry Leaves

Steps
  1. Soak the dal in water for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the asafoetida and curry leaves.
  3. Add the onions and green chillies and sauté till the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add the tomatoes and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and tamarind paste. Mix well.
  6. Add the soaked dal along with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and simmer till done.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
