- 1 cup red lentils
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Rinse the lentils in a sieve and set aside.
- Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the garlic, turmeric, and cayenne pepper and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the lentils and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until lentils are tender.
- Stir in salt and adjust seasoning to taste.
