Red Lentil Dal
Ingredients
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Steps
  1. Rinse the lentils in a sieve and set aside.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the garlic, turmeric, and cayenne pepper and cook for another minute.
  4. Stir in the lentils and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until lentils are tender.
  5. Stir in salt and adjust seasoning to taste.
