- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons minced onion
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Mix well.
- Add the warm water and oil and stir until combined.
- Mix in the minced onion.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and press your thumb through the center to make a bagel shape.
- Place the bagels on greased baking sheets. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
