Onion Bagels
Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced onion

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the warm water and oil and stir until combined.
  3. Mix in the minced onion.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and press your thumb through the center to make a bagel shape.
  7. Place the bagels on greased baking sheets. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
