1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup buttermilk

Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in the vanilla.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just blended.
Slowly stir in the buttermilk until all of the ingredients are combined.
Line muffin tins with paper liners and fill each about two-thirds full with batter.
Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool completely before frosting.
