- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk or yogurt, eggs and vanilla.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
