- 1/2 lb fresh okra
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Cut the okra into 1/4-inch slices.
- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Dredge the okra in the flour mixture and set aside.
- Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the okra to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crisp, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from the skillet with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
