Fried Okra
Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb fresh okra
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Steps
  1. Cut the okra into 1/4-inch slices.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  3. Dredge the okra in the flour mixture and set aside.
  4. Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the okra to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crisp, about 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from the skillet with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
