Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick slices.
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the egg and milk.
Dip each tomato slice into the egg mixture and then into the flour mixture to coat.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the coated tomato slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
Remove from heat and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
