- 2 large potatoes
- 1 lb. cod or haddock fillets
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beer, chilled
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Peel potatoes and cut into 1/4-inch thick slices.
- Mix together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper in a bowl.
- Add beer to the flour mixture and stir until a thick batter forms.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Dip potato slices into batter and place in the hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from skillet and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Repeat with remaining potato slices.
- Season fish fillets with salt and pepper.
- Dip fish fillets into batter then place in hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels.
