- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until thickened.
- Whisk in the milk and melted butter.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut out donut shapes with a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters of different sizes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or Dutch oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
- Remove from oil and let cool on paper towels before glazing or sprinkling with sugar.
