Donuts
Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled

Steps
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until thickened.
  3. Whisk in the milk and melted butter.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Cut out donut shapes with a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters of different sizes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or Dutch oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oil and let cool on paper towels before glazing or sprinkling with sugar.
