- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 11/4 cups warm water
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Add the warm water and mix with a wooden spoon until combined.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and shape into two round loaves.
- Place on a greased baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Brush loaves with melted butter and sprinkle with cornmeal.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
