Crusty Bread
Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 11/4 cups warm water

Steps
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Add the warm water and mix with a wooden spoon until combined.
  2. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
  3. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and shape into two round loaves.
  5. Place on a greased baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  7. Brush loaves with melted butter and sprinkle with cornmeal.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
