- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two standard muffin tins with paper liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
- In a large bowl, add the melted butter and sugar. Whisk until combined.
- Add eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition.
- Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients with the buttermilk to the wet ingredients.
- Divide batter evenly among muffin tins and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before frosting.
