Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the cocoa, melted butter and sugar until blended.
  4. Stir in the eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just blended.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Allow cake to cool before frosting.
