- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 8 oz uncooked penne pasta
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until beef is no longer pink; drain.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, garlic, Italian seasoning, sugar and pepper; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
- In a greased 2-qt. baking dish, layer half of the pasta and meat sauce.
- Sprinkle with 1 cup cheese.
- Repeat layers.
- Bake uncovered at 375°F for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
