Cheese Naan Bread
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter or ghee, plus more for brushing
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (any type)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro, optional

Steps
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  2. Add the yogurt and melted butter and stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten slightly.
  5. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of cheese over each flattened ball of dough. Sprinkle with cilantro if desired. Gently press the cheese and cilantro into the dough.
  6. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Working with one piece of dough at a time, roll it out into an 8-inch round.
  7. Brush one side lightly with melted butter or ghee. Place it in the pan, buttered side down. Cook until golden brown spots appear on the bottom, about 2 minutes.
  8. Brush the top of the naan with melted butter or ghee. Flip it over and cook for another minute or so until golden brown spots appear on that side as well.
