- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup milk
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk until just blended.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 10 times.
- Roll out to 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick and cut with a 2 inch (5 cm) biscuit cutter.
- Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush with butter while still hot.
