Boston Brown Bread
Ingredients
  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the flours, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the molasses and buttermilk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just blended.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  5. Cool bread in pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto wire rack to cool completely.
