Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 6 to 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced

Steps
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in brown sugar.
  5. Line a 9 inch pie plate with one of the pastry crusts.
  6. Fill with apples and sprinkle with crumb mixture.
  7. Dot with butter.
  8. Cover with top crust; seal and flute edges.
  9. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
  10. Serve warm or cold.
