- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
- 6 to 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a medium bowl combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in brown sugar.
- Line a 9 inch pie plate with one of the pastry crusts.
- Fill with apples and sprinkle with crumb mixture.
- Dot with butter.
- Cover with top crust; seal and flute edges.
- Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
- Serve warm or cold.
