- 2 9-inch unbaked pie crusts
- 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled tart apples
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
- Line the bottom of the pie shell with half of the apple mixture.
- Dot with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Cover with the other half of the apple mixture.
- Dot with remaining butter.
- Cover with top crust and crimp edges together to seal.
- Cut several slits in top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.
