- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 pounds beef stew meat, cubed
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Add the ginger, black pepper, cinnamon and cayenne pepper (if using) and stir to combine.
- Pour in enough water to cover the beef by 1 inch. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
