- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups buttermilk
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the sugar and eggs; then add the buttermilk and stir just until moistened. Do not over mix.
- Pour into prepared pan and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of loaf comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
