Steps

Attach one end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
Attach the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the working battery.
Attach one end of the black cable to the negative terminal of the working battery.
Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted metal surface on the car with a dead battery.
Start up both cars and let them run for 10 minutes.
Remove cables in reverse order: first, black; then, red.
Try starting up car with dead battery. If it runs, you're done! If not, repeat steps.
