- 1. Lift the hood of your car and locate the oil fill cap.
- 2. Unscrew the oil fill cap and set aside.
- 3. Place a large drain pan under the oil drain plug, which is located on the underside of your engine.
- 4. Unscrew the drain plug with a socket wrench and allow all of the used oil to drain into the pan.
- 5. Replace the drain plug and tighten with a socket wrench.
- 6. Locate your vehicle's oil filter, which is usually located near the bottom of your engine block.
- 7. Unscrew the oil filter with a filter wrench and discard it in an appropriate container.
- 8. Apply a thin layer of fresh motor oil to the gasket of your new oil filter.
- 9. Screw on your new filter until it is snug, but be careful not to over-tighten it.
- 10. Pour new motor oil into your engine using a funnel, filling it until it reaches its recommended level.
