Ingredients
  • Oil filter
  • Oil drain pan
  • Socket wrench and ratchet set
  • Funnel
  • Oil filter wrench (optional)
  • New oil of the correct grade and viscosity

Steps
  1. Lift the car up and place it on jack stands. Make sure the car is secure before working underneath it.
  2. Place the oil drain pan beneath the engine. Locate the oil plug at the bottom of the engine near the oil pan. Use your socket wrench to loosen and remove it.
  3. Allow all of the old oil to drain out into the drain pan. Replace the plug once all of the old oil has drained out.
  4. Locate your oil filter, usually near one side of your engine block. Use either an oil filter wrench or a socket wrench to remove it.
  5. Place a funnel in your new oil container and pour in about 4-5 quarts of new oil.
  6. Reinstall your new oil filter, making sure you have tightened it securely.
  7. Reinstall your oil plug and tighten securely with your socket wrench.
  8. Lower your car off of jack stands and start up your engine. Check for any signs of leaks.
