Steps

Check your owner's manual for the type and amount of oil needed for your vehicle.
Lift the car and place it securely on jack stands.
Place the oil pan underneath the drain plug.
Unscrew the drain plug with a ratchet and remove it.
Allow all of the old oil to drain out into the pan.
Replace the drain plug gasket (if necessary).
Screw in the new drain plug.
Remove the old oil filter with an oil filter wrench.
Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber seal on the new filter.
Screw in the new filter, making sure it is tight but not over-tightened.
Pour in your new oil, following your owner's manual for recommended amount.
Replace your engine's oil cap and start up your engine to check for any leaks.
